A young man announced that he got his mission call to Sao Paulo Brazil

First Speaker

"Fear, which can come upon people in difficult days, is a principal weapon in the arsenal that Satan uses to make mankind unhappy. He who fears loses strength for the combat of life in the fight against evil. Therefore, the power of the evil one always tries to generate fear in human hearts. In every age and in every era fear has faced mankind." (Howard W Hunter , "An Anchor to the Souls of Men", February 7, 1993)

Moses 7:26

26 And he beheld Satan; and he had a great chain in his hand, and it veiled the whole face of the earth with darkness; and he looked up and laughed, and his angels rejoiced.

DnC 6:36

36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.

“Service changes people. It refines, purifies, gives a finer perspective, and brings out the best in each one of us.” (Elder Derek A. Cuthbert, “The Spirituality of Service”, April 1990 General Conference)

Gen 15:1

1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Next Speaker

She talked about her journey back to church and how good the ward has been to her and her family.

Next Speaker

The speaker talked about the hymn, “There is a Green Hill Far Away”.

A young sister announced that she has been called to the Texas San Antonio Mission, Spanish speaking.

“The singing of hymns is one of the best ways to learn the doctrine of the restored gospel.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Worship Through Music,” October 1994 General Conference)

“Music has a sweet power to promote unity and love in the family. Not only is it an important component of family home evenings, but it can also exert a continuing influence for good well beyond times when children are small.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, Church Educational System fireside, 4 May 2008)

DnC 25:12

12 For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.

“Is it enough alone to know

“That we must follow him below,

“While trav’ling thru this vale of tears?

“No, this extends to holier spheres.”

Next Speaker

How important is music in the Church?

“Latter-day revelation also confirms the spiritual value of good music. The Lord has said, “My soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads” (D&C 25:12).” (“Music”, Bible Dictionary)

If you are not going to sing, at least follow along with the words.

Testimonies

Moses 7

18 And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.

Moses 5:11

11 And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.

Someone referenced the song, “He Walked a Mile”.

Someone bore testimony about the power of fasting.

Someone bore testimony about the powerful experiences they have had with family history.

1 Nephi 19

1 And it came to pass that the Lord commanded me, wherefore I did make plates of ore that I might engraven upon them the record of my people. And upon the plates which I made I did engraven the record of my father, and also our journeyings in the wilderness, and the prophecies of my father; and also many of mine own prophecies have I engraven upon them.

2 And I knew not at the time when I made them that I should be commanded of the Lord to make these plates; wherefore, the record of my father, and the genealogy of his fathers, and the more part of all our proceedings in the wilderness are engraven upon those first plates of which I have spoken; wherefore, the things which transpired before I made these plates are, of a truth, more particularly made mention upon the first plates.

If you are trying to bring someone closer to Christ and it is not working, try redoubling your efforts to bring yourself closer to Christ.

“Ordinances and covenants become our credentials for admission into His presence.” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, “Covenants”, April 1987)

DnC 2

1 Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

2 And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.

3 If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.

“Salvation is an individual matter, but exaltation is a family matter.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Come, Follow Me,” April 2019 General Conference)

Elijah appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery on April 3, 1836 in the Kirtland temple.

“This distinctive influence of the Holy Ghost draws people to identify, document, and cherish their ancestors and family members—both past and present.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “”The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn”, October 2011 General Conference)

Next Speaker

God provides that none will be disadvantaged by circumstances that they did not choose.

Abraham 3:22-23

25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.

Alma 34

34 Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.

Elders Quorum

Lesson was based on “They Are Their Own Judges” by Elder David A Bednar

Alma 41

7 These are they that are redeemed of the Lord; yea, these are they that are taken out, that are delivered from that endless night of darkness; and thus they stand or fall; for behold, they are their own judges, whether to do good or do evil.

Moroni 10

34 And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.

“I am intrigued by Moroni’s use of the word ‘pleasing’ to describe the Final Judgment. Other Book of Mormon prophets likewise describe the Judgment as a ‘glorious day’ and one that we should ‘look forward [to] with an eye of faith.’ Yet often when we anticipate Judgment Day, other prophetic descriptions come to mind, such as ‘shame and awful guilt,’ ‘dread and fear,’ and ‘endless misery.’

“I believe this stark contrast in language indicates that the doctrine of Christ enabled Moroni and other prophets to anticipate that great day with eager and hopeful anticipation instead of the fear they warned of for those not spiritually prepared. What did Moroni understand that you and I need to learn?” - Elder Bednar

DnC 88

21 And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom.

“How great, how glorious, how complete

“Redemption’s grand design,

“Where justice, love, and mercy meet

“In harmony divine!” (“How Great the Wisdom and the Love”, LDS Hymn)

“From such teachings we conclude that the Final Judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts—what we have done. It is an acknowledgment of the final effect of our acts and thoughts—what we have become.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “The Challenge to Become”, October 2000)

Life is not as much about doing, it is about becoming.

We are not saved by our works, we are saved by who we become through the grace of Christ.

She says that President Holland’s talk, “And Now I See”, from last conference inspired her talk.

She moved to a small town, Italy Texas, when she was a young teen.  Several other LDS families moved in at the same time that her family did.  People in the town created a petition for all of them to leave the town.

During the Savior’s greatest suffering none were with him.

Christ walked alone [or tread the winepress alone], so that we would never have to be alone.

DnC 122

7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

“In that hour I think I can see our dear Father behind the veil looking upon these dying struggles until even he could not endure it any longer; and, like the mother who bids farewell to her dying child, has to be taken out of the room, so as not to look upon the last struggles, so he bowed his head, and hid in some part of his universe, his great heart almost breaking for the love that he had for his Son. Oh, at that moment when he might have saved his Son, I thank him and praise him that he did not fail us, for he had not only the love of his Son in mind, but he also had love for us.” (Melvin J. Ballard, “The Sacramental Covenant,” Conference Report, April 1929, pp. 109–110)

Gen 1-2; Moses 2-3; Abraham 4-5

Having a mortal body changes our character in ways it couldn't be changed as just a spirit.

We have at least 4 accounts of creation. Each account people get different things from. Also, each person has their own experience with each account. Thus, there is so much more we can get from the creation story than a superficial reading. The creation story must be so much more important than to show how the earth was created.

After each stage of creation, God did not move on to the next phase until he saw that it was good and that everything obeyed.

Do we pay attention for things that we should be grateful for and tell Heavenly Father about them?

Mosiah 3:19

19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

Matthew 18

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

“In a coming day we will see the greatest manifestations” - President Nelson

Father has always caused his people to bind to their covenants through sacrifice.  For example, the children of Israel, early Latter-day Saints, time in the temple, and things of the world.  Just to name a few.

Elders Quorum

Lesson was based on Elder Kearon’s talk, “Jesus Christ and Your New Beginning”

John 21:15

15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

Moses 1:39

39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

What was Peter's work and glory? Jesus wanted to know if Peter's work and glory was more important to him than Heavenly Father's work and glory and Jesus's work and glory.

“The specific examples we do have immortalised in scripture of Jesus going about ‘doing good’ stir deep awe and wonder, especially when we really consider what it might have been like to be there, to witness His miracles, to receive His teachings, and to experience His healing.  He conversed with the social outcasts.” - Elder Kearon

Which of Christ's miracles and teachings touch you the most?

“He touched the diseased and unclean, He brought comfort to the weary, He taught liberating truth, and He called sinners to repentance. To each leper, blind man, and adulterous woman; to the lame, the deaf, and the dumb; to every grieving mother, desperate father, and mourning widow; to the condemned, the shamed, and the suffering; to the dead in body and the dead in spirit, what He did was offer a new beginning. Yes, another staggering understatement!” - Elder Kearon

3 Nephi 17:1-10

1 Behold, now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked round about again on the multitude, and he said unto them: Behold, my time is at hand.

2 I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time.

3 Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again.

4 But now I go unto the Father, and also to show myself unto the lost tribes of Israel, for they are not lost unto the Father, for he knoweth whither he hath taken them.

5 And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears, and did look steadfastly upon him as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them.

6 And he said unto them: Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you.

7 Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you; my bowels are filled with mercy.

8 For I perceive that ye desire that I should show unto you what I have done unto your brethren at Jerusalem, for I see that your faith is sufficient that I should heal you.

9 And it came to pass that when he had thus spoken, all the multitude, with one accord, did go forth with their sick and their afflicted, and their lame, and with their blind, and with their dumb, and with all them that were afflicted in any manner; and he did heal them every one as they were brought forth unto him.

10 And they did all, both they who had been healed and they who were whole, bow down at his feet, and did worship him; and as many as could come for the multitude did kiss his feet, insomuch that they did bathe his feet with their tears.

“Everything He said and did provided a new beginning for each of those He healed, blessed, taught, and relieved of sin. He didn’t withdraw from them, and He certainly won’t withdraw from you.” - Kearon

Dnc 88:63

63 Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Alma 36:6

6 For I went about with the sons of Mosiah, seeking to destroy the church of God; but behold, God sent his holy angel to stop us by the way.

Alma 36:16-20

16 And now, for three days and for three nights was I racked, even with the pains of a damned soul.

17 And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world.

18 Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.

19 And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more.

20 And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!

“Repentance opens the door to our new beginnings, fresh starts, and second chances.” - Kearon

“Please receive your new beginning, even today, right now. Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith, writing countless new chapters with us.” - Kearon

Testimonies

“A testimony of the gospel is a personal witness borne to our souls by the Holy Ghost that certain facts of eternal significance are true and that we know them to be true. Such facts include the nature of the Godhead and our relationship to its three members, the effectiveness of the Atonement, and the reality of the Restoration.

“A testimony of the gospel is not a travelogue, a health log, or an expression of love for family members. It is not a sermon.  President Kimball taught that the moment we begin preaching to others, our testimony is ended.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Testimony”, April 2008)

1 Corinthians 2

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Moroni 10

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

“As we desire and seek, we should remember that acquiring a testimony is not a passive thing but a process in which we are expected to do something.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Testimony”, April 2008)

Alma 5

46 Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me.

Do we desire revelation, but don’t do the work to receive it?

“We gain or strengthen a testimony by bearing it.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Testimony”, April 2008)

The power of Christ doesn’t always remove our trials, but often He can give us the power to deal with it.

There were lots of testimonies today about prayer today.

Sunday School

Satan makes us feel that the Lord will abandon us if this or that. But the Lord never leaves us.

Jehovah can come off as harsh. Some of that could be due to what the people needed. Some of it could be the way the scribes wrote it.

Nobody ever lived in the past. It was the present to them.
