Church Services This Week at Layton North Stake Conference Layton Utah 12 June 2016

Stake Conference
From the Bulletin:
Dnc 44:2
2 And it shall come to pass, that inasmuch as they are faithful, and exercise faith in me, I will pour out my Spirit upon them in the day that they assemble themselves together.

Adult Session
A couple who are public affairs missionaries spoke to us.

John 13:34
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

The president of the Ogden mission and his wife spoke to us.

Moroni 7:28-29
28 For he hath answered the ends of the law, and he claimeth all those who have faith in him; and they who have faith in him will cleave unto every good thing; wherefore he advocateth the cause of the children of men; and he dwelleth eternally in the heavens.
29 And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men.

A member of the stake presidency spoke.

Doctrine and Covenants 123:12
12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—

Ephesians 4:14
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Doctrine and Covenants 28:2-7
2 But, behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, no one shall be appointed to receive commandments and revelations in this church excepting my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., for he receiveth them even as Moses.
3 And thou shalt be obedient unto the things which I shall give unto him, even as Aaron, to declare faithfully the commandments and the revelations, with power and authority unto the church.
4 And if thou art led at any time by the Comforter to speak or teach, or at all times by the way of commandment unto the church, thou mayest do it.
 5 But thou shalt not write by way of commandment, but by wisdom;
 6 And thou shalt not command him who is at thy head, and at the head of the church;
7 For I have given him the keys of the mysteries, and the revelations which are sealed, until I shall appoint unto them another in his stead.

We can not afford to allow the weaknesses of our leaders affect our testimony.

And, to be perfectly frank, there have been times when members or leaders in the Church have simply made mistakes. There may have been things said or done that were not in harmony with our values, principles, or doctrine.
I suppose the Church would be perfect only if it were run by perfect beings. God is perfect, and His doctrine is pure. But He works through us—His imperfect children—and imperfect people make mistakes.“ - (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Come, Join with Us, October 2013 General Conference)
The Elder Stephen O Laing of the seventy spoke to us.

Doctrine and Covenants 88:1-2
1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you who have assembled yourselves together to receive his will concerning you:
2 Behold, this is pleasing unto your Lord, and the angels rejoice over you; the alms of your prayers have come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded in the book of the names of the sanctified, even them of the celestial world.

We come together in our weaknesses to strengthen each other.

He showed a video about a family praying together day and night together and in between serving others.

Sunday Morning Session
‘Happily ever after’ is not something found only in fairy tales. You can have it! It is available for you! But you must follow your Heavenly Father’s map.“ (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Your Happily Ever After, April 2010 General Conference)

The temple is our castle.  We get married in our castle. If we spend time there frequently we are protected by its fortifications.

The president and matron of the Bountiful temple spoke to us.

The matron talked about the Moroni on top of the temple getting struck by lightning recently. She said that one of the purposes of the Moroni is to be a lightning rod and protect the temple.

The temple president said the law of sacrifice is counter intuitive. He said that you have to think about how an apple dies in order to produce thousands of more apples.

He said that it is awkward to refer to the dead as dead, since they are not lifeless. They are just changed.

The stake president spoke to us.

People have misapplied the command to not judge to cause society and government to have no boundaries of decency and of right and wrong.

Every judgement we make is temporary.  There is only one final judgement and that is made by God in the future.

Even Jesus did not condemn people during his mortal ministry.   He made judgements of people's behaviors and asked them to repent.

There is no need to make judgements outside of our stewardship.

Be mindful of our motives and our own justifications.

Luke 10:38-40
38 ¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

We have to be cautious of the phrase, “it's not fair “.

Sister Laing spoke to us.

We should pray before each meeting and each speaker and thus be able to be edified no matter the ability of the speakers.

We are tested here on earth without a memory of our Heavenly Father and Mother.

Moroni 7:46
46 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—
47 But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

1 Corinthians 13:8
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.

Elder Laing spoke to us.

Before we came to earth we saw the trials on earth and how those things could help us grow strong.

The sabbath is a sign from God, not a sign from us to God.

The Lord knows everything that offends you. He knows everything that makes you happy. He knows everything that tempts you. Not generally, but personally.
