Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Oct 20, 2024

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

A sister that recently returned from serving a mission in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission spoke to us.  She said that her last area was the only one that was in Louisiana.  She said that she spent most of her mission in Arkansas and Mississippi.

She referenced the talk “Tithing Opening the Windows of Heaven”.

Malachi 3

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

Look closely at your life and identify where tithing has blessed you.

Next Speaker

“One little piece of bread may not make much of difference, but Jesus can bless bread, a few loafs to feed thousands, and surely He can bless the bread that we partake of week after week and weakness after weakness to bless and to nourish us as well.” (Brad Wilcox, Education Week, 31 July 2015)

Proverbs 26

11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

“I [asked President Hugh B Brown], ‘Why … was Abraham commanded to go to Mount Moriah and offer his only hope of posterity?’

“It was clear that this man, nearly ninety, had thought and prayed and wept over that question before. He finally said, ‘Abraham needed to learn something about Abraham’” (Five Classics by Truman G. Madsen [2001], 232).

Sunday School

Tithing builds us through building temples and meeting houses. We then grow and learn to serve more effectively physically and financially and bless the kindreds of the earth as the scripture says. We can bless those that may never join the church as well as members.

Tithing helps us bless the past kindreds of the earth through paying to build and maintain temples.

One reason we go through hard times is to learn empathy for others that might be misbehaving due to their trials.
