Several people were called to witness of Christ. Some were for their followers and some were to instruct Mary and Joseph and give them things to think about as they raised him.
The wise men showed up after Jesus was a child. They showed with expensive gifts. This must've been astonishing to Mary and Joseph.

The Lord told the prophet Jeremiah, “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).” (President Thomas S. Being led captive by the devil can be through bad habits and addictions.
