Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah 14 Aug 2022

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

DnC 25

12 For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.

Good music can heal. Bad music can also wound.

Good music can be soap for the soul.

Next Speaker

Musicians or musical groups often have a "signature sound". Does truth have a signature sound or feeling.

Sounds can move sand into patterns.

"My lord, I should be sorry if I only entertained them, I wish to make them better." (In Donald Burrows, Handel: Messiah (1991), 28; see also “A Tribute to Handel,” Improvement Era, May 1929, 574.)

"Music is the shorthand of emotion/" - Tolstoy

Music blesses the giver and the receiver.

Elders Quorum

The lesson was based on “In Awe of Christ and His Gospel” by Elder Soares and “Love, Share, Invite” by Elder Stevenson from April 2022 General Conference

How do we avoid the trap of Spiritual apathy?

"...become more spiritually resilient and protected against falling into the trap of spiritual apathy. Such apathy is characterized by the gradual loss of our excitement to engage fully in the Lord’s gospel." - Soares

"My brothers and sisters, when we truly are in awe of Jesus Christ and His gospel, we are happier, we have more enthusiasm for God’s work, and we recognize the Lord’s hand in all things. Additionally, our study of God’s words is more meaningful; our prayers, more intentional; our worship, more reverent; our service in God’s kingdom, more diligent." - Soares

“the Savior’s great commission can be accomplished through simple, easily understandable principles taught to each of us from childhood: love, share, and invite.” - Stevenson

Ward Council

How do we become fully converted members and not just active members?

"I plead with you to take charge of your testimony. Work for it. Own it. Care for it. Nurture it so that it will grow. Feed it truth. Don’t pollute it with the false philosophies of unbelieving men and women and then wonder why your testimony is waning." (President Russell M. Nelson, “Choices for Eternity”, Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults with President Nelson-15May2022)

Stake Priesthood Meeting

First Speaker

We don't know who we will influence as they see us doing our duty.

Next Speaker

The Ministering of angels helps bring us closer to Christ.

Next Speaker

They spoke of understanding the keys that are given to a bishop.  We should understand what things do not require his keys and help him with those things where we can to lighten his load.

Next Speaker

Be proactive as quorum leaders and as general ward members.

Acts of service often yield more than just the task to accomplish. Those working together can strengthen each other while they work together to strengthen someone else.

Next Speaker

“I wonder, brethren, how many of us seriously ponder the inestimable value of holding the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods. When we consider how few men who have lived on earth have received the priesthood and how Jesus Christ has empowered those individuals to act in His name, we should feel deeply humble and profoundly grateful for the priesthood we hold." (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Honor the Priesthood and Use It Well”, October 2008 General Conference)

Next Speaker

Think of those around us who need help, pay attention, and act.

Next Speaker

"In their zeal to promote opportunity for women, something we applaud, there are those who denigrate men and their contributions. They seem to think of life as a competition between male and female—that one must dominate the other, and now it’s the women’s turn. Some argue that a career is everything and marriage and children should be entirely optional—therefore, why do we need men?2 In too many Hollywood films, TV and cable shows, and even commercials, men are portrayed as incompetent, immature, or self-absorbed. This cultural emasculation of males is having a damaging effect." (Elder D. Todd Christofferson, “Brethren, We Have Work to Do”, October 2012 General Conference)

We are children of God, children of the covenant, and disciples of Christ.
