Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Sep 14, 2025

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

Light means a lot more when you live in the dark.

1 Timothy 4:12

12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

We don't need a name tag to teach about the lord. We just need to have Christ deeply part of our hearts

Doctrine and Covenants 29:7

7 And ye are called to bring to pass the gathering of mine elect; for mine elect hear my voice and harden not their hearts;

Alma 31

5 And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God.

“Anyone who does any kind of missionary work will have occasion to ask, Why is this so hard? Why doesn’t it go better? Why can’t our success be more rapid? Why aren’t there more people joining the Church? It is the truth. We believe in angels. We trust in miracles. Why don’t people just flock to the font? Why isn’t the only risk in missionary work that of pneumonia from being soaking wet all day and all night in the baptismal font?

“You will have occasion to ask those questions. I have thought about this a great deal. I offer this as my personal feeling. I am convinced that missionary work is not easy because salvation is not a cheap experience. Salvation never was easy. We are The Church of Jesus Christ, this is the truth, and He is our Great Eternal Head. How could we believe it would be easy for us when it was never, ever easy for Him? It seems to me that missionaries and mission leaders have to spend at least a few moments in Gethsemane. Missionaries and mission leaders have to take at least a step or two toward the summit of Calvary.” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “Missionary Work and the Atonement”, From a talk given at the Provo (Utah) Missionary Training Center on 20 June 2000)

Often when we ask, “ why did this happen? “ we actually can see why. What we may actually want to know is how did God make it happen that I could have that experience?

Next Speake

The Lord’s purposes for your mission are known to him.  Maybe it is to bring many to baptism.  Maybe it is not.  Maybe your mission is to plant a seed for others to reap later.  Maybe your mission is to serve and strengthen others.  Maybe your mission is not to baptize, but to help someone more from being telestial to being terrestrial or at least less telestial.

Next Speaker

“The adversary rejoices in labels because they divide us and restrict the way we think about ourselves and each other. How sad it is when we honor labels more than we honor each other.

“Labels can lead to judging and animosity. Any abuse or prejudice toward another because of nationality, race, sexual orientation, gender, educational degrees, culture, or other significant identifiers is offensive to our Maker! Such mistreatment causes us to live beneath our stature as His covenant sons and daughters!” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Choices for Eternity”, Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults 15 May 2022)

Elders Quorum

Lesson was based on Sister Amy A. Wright -  “Thou Art the Christ” and Elder Ricardo P. Gimènez - “My Love for the Savior Is My ‘Why’”.

“My dear brothers and sisters, do you see what is happening right before our eyes? I pray that we will not miss the majesty of this moment! The Lord is indeed hastening His work.”

...

“There is no limit to the Savior’s capacity to help you. His incomprehensible suffering in Gethsemane and on Calvary was for you! His infinite Atonement is for you!” (President Russell M. Nelson, “The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again”, April 2025 General Conference)

“I hope you will consider my words as a sincere invitation to seek to understand the opportunity to link everything we do with our love for the Savior.” (Elder Ricardo P. Gimènez)

“In our world, we usually focus on what we do and on consistently accomplishing tasks and goals. In a spiritual sphere, we have the opportunity to go beyond just doing things or achieving goals by understanding why we are doing them. If we can understand and connect that the reason behind our actions relates to our love for the Savior and our Heavenly Father, by taking advantage of these opportunities we will understand that even though doing righteous things like having Church activities or traditions and appropriately doing them is a good thing, when we connect them with the “why,” we will be blessed to understand the reason. It won’t be just doing good things or doing them right; we will also get them right.” (Gimènez)

“Mom, I was asked 10 questions. The final question was, ‘Where do you derive your moral compass?’ I stated that throughout history humankind has derived systems of morality by patterning their lives from archetypes. The archetype of morality I strive to pattern my life from is that of Jesus Christ. I stated if all of humanity abided by the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount, the world would be a better, more peaceful place.” (Sister Wright)

“My dear brothers and sisters, in a coming day, Jesus Christ will return to the earth as the millennial Messiah. So today I call upon you to rededicate your lives to Jesus Christ. I call upon you to help gather scattered Israel and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord. I call upon you to talk of Christ, testify of Christ, have faith in Christ, and rejoice in Christ!” (President Russell M. Nelson, “The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again”, October 2024 General Conference)
