“It is a time of permissiveness, with society in general routinely disregarding and breaking the laws of God.”
Gordon B. Hinckley, “Living in the Fulness of Times,” Liahona, Jan. 2002, 6; Ensign, Nov. 2001, 6.
“All of the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah haunt our society. Our young people have never faced a greater challenge. We have never seen more clearly the lecherous face of evil.”
Ezra Taft Benson, “To the “Youth of the Noble Birthright””, Ensign, May 1986
“Give me a young man who has kept himself morally clean and has faithfully attended his Church meetings. Give me a young man who has magnified his priesthood and has earned the Duty to God Award and is an Eagle Scout. Give me a young man who is a seminary graduate and has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. Give me such a young man, and I will give you a young man who can perform miracles for the Lord in the mission field and throughout his life”
Agendas for meetings
Keep it timely. If the meeting is an hour don't schedule an hour and a half of stuff to talk about. Move some stuff to an agenda or a different meeting.
Use the agenda to make that meeting a tool in the savior's hands.
Doctrine and Covenants 107:99
99 Wherefore, now let every man learn his aduty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all bdiligence.
We need to act. How do we act? In all diligence.
Doing your duty diligently is an expression of your love for the savior.
Doctrine and Covenants 58:26-28
26 For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is acompelled in all things, the same is a bslothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.
27 Verily I say, men should be aanxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;
28 For the power is in them, wherein they are aagents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their breward.
The aaronic priesthood is referred to as the lesser priesthood. This should not minimize it's value. It is the preparatory priesthood. It has the power to prepare young men for the responsibilities of the Melchizedek priesthood. The responsibility of being a husband, a father, a leader among men.
Doctrine and Covenants 20:53-57
53 The ateacher’s duty is to bwatch over the cchurch always, and be with and strengthen them;
54 And see that there is no iniquity in the church, neither ahardness with each other, neither lying, bbackbiting, nor cevil dspeaking;
55 And see that the church meet together often, and also see that all the members do their duty.
56 And he is to take the lead of meetings in the absence of the elder or priest—
57 And is to be assisted always, in all his duties in the church, by the adeacons, if occasion requires.
We are entitled to guidance from the spirit within our stewardship. The more we act upon those promptings, the stronger and more frequent those promptings will become.
Elder David A. Bednar, “A Conversation on Leadership”, February 24, 2010
“I think leadership includes both what you do and what you leave. What you do is necessary but not sufficient; it’s not enough. The most important thing is what you leave when you’re not there, and the most important thing you can leave are people who have increased in capacity and confidence.
“That originates, in my experience, when I was called the first time to be a stake president; the call was extended by Elder H. Burke Peterson. It was in the mid 1980s and I will never forget the first thing he said after he extended the call. He looked at me and he said, “Now, your greatest responsibility is to begin right now, training a multitude of men who can replace you.””
Church leaders should read the handbook of instructions to understand your calling and duties better.
The savior did not say, "as I have fixed you, fix one another"
Empathy is not about agreeing, it is about understanding.
We should diagnose before we prescribe. That entails listening.
Bishop Robert L. Simpson, Conference Report, April 1962, General Priesthood Meeting 79.
“We interview with the spirit of love, and this should be the entire purpose of every interview—love. This should be the underlying factor. There should be no other source but love as we talk to our young people and seek to guide them in the proper direction. And like dad, the bishop should be a good listener, too, with the wisdom of Solomon.”
A spirit of love and a spirit of caring should be present as we meeting with our quorum, our home teaching families, and our family.
Mormon 1:2
2 And about the time that aAmmaron hid up the records unto the Lord, he came unto me, (I being about ten years of age, and I began to be blearned somewhat after the manner of the learning of my people) and Ammaron said unto me: I perceive that thou art acsober child, and art quick to observe;
Doctrine and Covenants 104:11-12
11 It is wisdom in me; therefore, a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall organize yourselves and appoint every man his astewardship;
12 That every man may give an account unto me of the stewardship which is appointed unto him.
