Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah 27 November 2022

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

A missionary that just got set apart to go to the Georgia Atlanta Spanish speaking mission.

We can be saviors, to some degree, simply by smiling at someone.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

The door is always there.  Will we knock?

Amos 5:4

4 ¶ For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

Amos 3:7

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

“There are many scriptures which assure us that God is as interested in us today as he has been in all his children from the beginning, and thus we believe in continuous revelation from God through his prophets to guide us in these latter days.” (President N. Eldon Tanner, “Christ in America”, April 1975 General Conference)

Amos 5:14-15

14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

“After centuries of spiritual darkness, described by Amos and Jeremiah, we solemnly announce to all the world that the spiritual famine is ended, the spiritual drought is spent, the word of the Lord in its purity and totalness is available to all men. One needs not wander from sea to sea nor from the north to the east, seeking the true gospel as Amos predicted, for the everlasting truth is available.“ (Elder Spencer W Kimball, April 1964 General Conference

Elders Quorum

Moroni 7:43-44

43 And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.

44 If so, his faith and hope is vain, for none is acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart; and if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses by the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity.

Someone in class suggested that meek means humble, not passive.

Longsuffering is like Christ. He suffered a lot and kept going. He continued to do God's work in spite of His challenges.

We talk about not using vain repetition in our prayers. He doesn't say we can't have intentional and sincere repetition.

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

“Whenever we show Christlike love toward our neighbor, we preach the gospel—even if we do not voice a single word.” (Elder Gary E. Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite”, April 2022 General Conference)

Most people will not join the Church, but we should still love everyone.

The reason we talk to people should be because we care about them and not just to convert them.

A Book of Mormon shared without testimony is just a book.

When we love our neighbors, we diminish Satan's influence in our neighborhood, even if they don't become active in church.

Critics of the Church often hold the Bible to a different standard than the Book of Mormon. They also often hold the prophets in the Bible to a different standard than Joseph Smith.  They criticize for the same so-called deficiencies that are in the Bible.

Sunday School

All temple covenants build toward the marriage covenant with the Lord.

Stories in the scriptures often point us to the temple, which point us to Christ.

Sacrament Service

Primary Program

Elders Quorum

The lesson was based on Put On Thy Strength, O Zion By Elder David A. Bednar and We Can Do Hard Things Through Him by Isaac K. Morrison

“Parables are a defining feature of the Lord Jesus Christ’s masterful approach to teaching. Simply defined, the Savior’s parables are stories used to compare spiritual truths with material things and mortal experiences.” (Elder Bednar)

Matthew 13:10-13

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Matthew 22:14

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

JST Matt. 22:14 … chosen; wherefore all do not have on the wedding garment.

Sacrament Service

Going through life without a connection to God can leave us lost, lonely, or scared.  Much like when we go deep into the woods or into the mountain without a map, compass, or cell phone.

Ether 12:4

4 Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.

We can learn a lot about the scriptures and the doctrine of Christ.  We can believe strongly.  If we do not act, then we aren't entirely active.

Sunday School

“When it is for the Lord’s purposes, He can bring anything to our remembrance. That should not weaken our determination to record impressions of the Spirit. Inspiration carefully recorded shows God that His communications are sacred to us. Recording will also enhance our ability to recall revelation. Such recording of direction of the Spirit should be protected from loss or intrusion by others.” (Elder Richard G Scott, ”How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life”, April 2012 General Conference)

"He who denies Daniel's prophecies undermines Christianity, which is founded on Daniel's prophecies concerning Christ." - Sir Isaac Newton

“Our God will deliver us from ridicule and persecution, but if not. … Our God will deliver us from sickness and disease, but if not. … He will deliver us from loneliness, depression, or fear, but if not. … Our God will deliver us from threats, accusations, and insecurity, but if not. … He will deliver us from death or impairment of loved ones, but if not, … we will trust in the Lord.” (Elder Dennis E. Simmons, “But If Not …”, April 2004 General Conference)
