"I believe in a Heavenly Father who is living and caring and who rejoices in our every effort to stand tall and walk toward Him." - elder Uchtdorf

First Speaker
The Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost’s title of comforter is not a title only.  It is His role or his calling.

John 14:16
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

John 14:26
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Doctrine and Covenants 132

Ephesians 1

The Holy Ghost is a confirmer.  He confirms that things are true.  He confirms that things are acceptable to God.

Article of Faith 1
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

Moses 1:12-14
12 And it came to pass that when Moses had said these words, behold, Satan came tempting him, saying: Moses, son of man, worship me.
13 And it came to pass that Moses looked upon Satan and said: Who art thou? For behold, I am a son of God, in the similitude of his Only Begotten; and where is thy glory, that I should worship thee?
14 For behold, I could not look upon God, except his glory should come upon me, and I were transfigured before him. But I can look upon thee in the natural man. Is it not so, surely?

“However many generations in your mortal ancestry, no matter what race or people you represent, the pedigree of your spirit can be written on a single line. You are a child of God!” (President Boyd K Packer, “A Few Simple Lessons”, April 1989 General Conference)

John 3:16
16 ¶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Doctrine and Covenants 84:82-83
82 For, consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin; and the kingdoms of the world, in all their glory, are not arrayed like one of these.
83 For your Father, who is in heaven, knoweth that you have need of all these things.

No one can go through healing for us, but Jesus can go through it with us.

Elders Quorum
The wise men were wise because they saw the signs of the saviors birth and acted.

Lesson based on conference talk "Spiritual Treasures" By President Russell M. Nelson

"It was in Harmony that Emma Hale Smith served as her husband’s first scribe while the Prophet translated the Book of Mormon.

“It was also in Harmony that Joseph received a revelation manifesting the Lord’s will to Emma. The Lord instructed Emma to expound the scriptures, to exhort the Church, to receive the Holy Ghost, and to spend her time ‘learning much.’ Emma was also counseled to ‘lay aside the things of this world and seek for the things of a better’ and to hold fast to her covenants with God. The Lord concluded His instruction with these compelling words: ‘This is my voice unto all.’
“Everything that happened in this area has profound implications for your lives. The restoration of the priesthood, along with the Lord’s counsel to Emma, can guide and bless each of you. How I yearn for you to understand that the restoration of the priesthood is just as relevant to you as a woman as it is to any man. Because the Melchizedek Priesthood has been restored, both covenant-keeping women and men have access to ‘all the spiritual blessings of the church’ or, we might say, to all the spiritual treasures the Lord has for His children.” (From the lesson talk)

Men and especially priesthood holders have the responsibility to provide, preside, and protect. We are to remove any obstacles to motherhood functioning.

This Week at Church Layton Utah North Stake 19 January 2020 General Session of Stake Conference

General Session of Stake Conference
First Speaker
Matthew 11
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Next Speaker
Philippians 2
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

3 Nephi 17:7
7 Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you; my bowels are filled with mercy.

Be a miracle to many.

What are some of the things that God, through Joseph Smith, added to Christian doctrine?
  • The nature of the Godhead.
  • The purpose of the fall.
  • The reason we are here in earth life.
  • The fate of children that die without baptism.

Next Speaker
Moses 1:39
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

Dnc 60:13
13 Behold, they have been sent to preach my gospel among the congregations of the wicked; wherefore, I give unto them a commandment, thus: Thou shalt not idle away thy time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known.

Luke 2:52
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Next Speaker
As a non member he was accepted the way he was by people at church.

Once he understood the phrase real intent he understood the value of the Church.

Doctrine and Covenants 44:3
3 And it shall come to pass that they shall go forth into the regions round about, and preach repentance unto the people.

Mosiah 26:30
30 Yea, and as often as my people repent will I forgive them their trespasses against me.

The speaker had been baptized in the Jordan River in Jerusalem, but without authority, so the location didn’t matter.

Exodus 20:8-11
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Luke 18:12
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Malachi:8-10
8 ¶ Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Amos 3:7
7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Next Speaker
Do not procrastinate if you are to make things better.

Alma 53:20-21
20 And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.
21 Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.
Next Speaker
Don't look at changes in the Church as challenges, but as opportunities.

Study the concept of diligence and the word straightway.

Doctrine and Covenants 107:99
99 Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence.

The Lord asks us to be diligent in following His example and serving others (see, for example, D&C 4:6; 30:8; 75:29; 107:99). As we pray to know what we should do, make plans to obey, and then act with determination and faith, we show our willingness to serve the Lord and do our part in building His kingdom.” (Objectives of Seminaries and Institutes - Develop Christlike Attributes, https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/si/objective/christlike-attributes/develop-christlike-attributes?lang=eng

Doctrine and Covenants 58:27
27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

Change our heart to do the right things because we want to, not because we have to.

Alma 23:6
6 And as sure as the Lord liveth, so sure as many as believed, or as many as were brought to the knowledge of the truth, through the preaching of Ammon and his brethren, according to the spirit of revelation and of prophecy, and the power of God working miracles in them—yea, I say unto you, as the Lord liveth, as many of the Lamanites as believed in their preaching, and were converted unto the Lord, never did fall away.

Alma 24:20-23
20 And it came to pass that their brethren, the Lamanites, made preparations for war, and came up to the land of Nephi for the purpose of destroying the king, and to place another in his stead, and also of destroying the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi out of the land.
21 Now when the people saw that they were coming against them they went out to meet them, and prostrated themselves before them to the earth, and began to call on the name of the Lord; and thus they were in this attitude when the Lamanites began to fall upon them, and began to slay them with the sword.
22 And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a thousand and five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell with their God.
23 Now when the Lamanites saw that their brethren would not flee from the sword, neither would they turn aside to the right hand or to the left, but that they would lie down and perish, and praised God even in the very act of perishing under the sword

If all the people around us have heard the gospel, we must remember that often it takes many contacts with the Church for a person to understand.

She first felt their love, then she felt the spirit.

You are not done until 100 percent of the field has been plowed. Not 60 percent.

"My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions.” (President Russell M Nelson, "The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?”, October 2017 General Conference)

Joseph Smith History 1:17
17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!

Session
Two missionaries new to the stake spoke to us.
One missionary from Utah County and was called to Virginia. He got brain cancer and had to have surgery and treatment. He then was called to the Layton mission.

These missionaries are now dedicated to only our stake, instead of shared with multiple stakes.

2 Nephi 12:2
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, when the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it.

They said that Utah means top of the mountain in the ute language.  I couldn’’t find that, but I saw references to it meaning people of the mountain.

“My dear young brothers and sisters, these surely are the latter days, and the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it. You can be a big part of something big, something grand, something majestic!” (President Russell M Nelson and Sister Wendy W Nelson, Hope of Israel, New Era August 2018)

Our level of conversion is reflected is how much desire we have to share the gospel with our friends.

Doctrine and Covenants 11:8
8 Verily, verily, I say unto you, even as you desire of me so it shall be done unto you; and, if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation.

A sister that moved here from Kazakhstan spoke to us with her bishop in our stake. She was baptized in April.

Next Speaker
“When I have been weighed down by a problem or a difficulty, I have gone to the house of the Lord with a prayer in my heart for answers. These answers have come in clear and unmistakable ways.” (President Ezra Taft Benson, Ensign, August 1985, page 8.)

The Law of Consecration - “To dedicate, to make holy, or to become righteous. The law of consecration is a divine principle whereby men and women voluntarily dedicate their time, talents, and material wealth to the establishment and building up of God’s kingdom.” (Guide to the Scriptures)

A lot of the talk was about living the law of consecration. Interesting since often people comment that the law of consecration was something in the past.

Next Speaker
The speaker talked of not forgetting the good things we learned in scouting.

Next Speaker
If you slow down and look you will see God's hand in your life, but you have to pay attention.

Doing indexing is a way to say thank you for all the records that are available to us to help us find our ancestors.

Matthew 7:7
7 ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Malachi 4:5-6
5 ¶ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

There have been miracles in this stake.

Reach out to someone and at the end of the evening report back to heavenly father about that. Through this you will see miracles happen.

Moses 1:39
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

Abraham 3:25
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

Prove - to learn or find out by experience.

Dnc 84:38
38 And he that receiveth my Father receiveth my Father’s kingdom; therefore all that my Father hath shall be given unto him.

Self-motivated change is repentance.

You are never alone.

Take things in small steps.

Society lies about what is beautiful.

“The reason charity never fails and the reason charity is greater than even the most significant acts of goodness he cited is that charity, ‘the pure love of Christ’ (Moro. 7:47), is not an act but a condition or state of being. Charity is attained through a succession of acts that result in a conversion. Charity is something one becomes. Thus, as Moroni declared, ‘except men shall have charity they cannot inherit’ the place prepared for them in the mansions of the Father (Ether 12:34; emphasis added).”

“When we reach out to others, we can know with humble confidence that God acknowledges our service with approval and approbation. He smiles upon us as we offer these heartfelt acts of compassion, especially acts that are unseen and unnoticed by others.” (Elder Dieter F Uchtdorf, The Greatest Among You, April 2017 General Conference)

First Speaker

Someone that recently returned from serving a mission in the Kansas Wichita Mission spoke to us.

Deception, distractions, and discouragement are the tools Satan uses to shake our faith.

“The adversary’s design is to distract us from spiritual witnesses, while the Lord’s desire is to enlighten and engage us in His work.” (Ronald A. Rasband, “Lest Thou Forget,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2016, 115.)

We watched the video of Elder Jeffrey R Holland, “The Savior Understands Me”.

Salvation is a very personal matter.

Elders Quorum

The lesson was based on the October 2019 General Conference talk by Elder Jorge M. Alvarado After the Trial of Our Faith.

Hebrews 11:1

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Alma 32:21

21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

Enos 1:3

3 Behold, I went to hunt beasts in the forests; and the words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart.

God allows things not because he is mean, but because he lives is and wants us to learn and he knows it is temporary, even if it is for our whole life.
