Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah 9 April 2017

Article of Faith 6

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

Sacrament Service

A brother who served in the Navy with President Monson told of how he spoke recently at a veteran’s home about his service with President Monson.

A brother bore testimony of stepping outside and recognizing that this earth was created and isn’t just an accident.  He also talked about that he has seen too much in life that affirms that the Church is the true Church of Christ.  I second that testimony.  He testified that we are not animals, but children of the creator of the Earth.

A brother shared that he felt the purpose of prayer is to change our focus to what is most important.  He expressed that when he watches the news or reads blogs or things like that, that he is often upset or confused.  He contrasted that with how he gains clarity and peace when he reads the Book of Mormon.

An eight year old that just got baptized bore his testimony that when he prays he feels good.

A brother talked about two men that were in the military with his father.  Because they lived their religion, his father wanted to know more and joined the Church.

A sister told of how she has seen Heavenly Father’s hand in the little things in her life.

Sunday School

Lesson 13-Doctrine and Covenants

The teacher said that he admires Joseph Smith's work ethic in restoring the gospel.

Over half the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants came while Joseph was translating the Bible.

Dnc 5:10

10 But this generation shall have my word through you;

We have been told that we can substitute the word generation with the word dispensation.

Moses 1:40-41

40 And now, Moses, my son, I will speak unto thee concerning this earth upon which thou standest; and thou shalt write the things which I shall speak.

41 And in a day when the children of men shall esteem my words as naught and take many of them from the book which thou shalt write, behold, I will raise up another like unto thee; and they shall be had again among the children of men—among as many as shall believe.

2 Nephi 3:11-15

11 But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins—and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them.

12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

13 And out of weakness he shall be made strong, in that day when my work shall commence among all my people, unto the restoring thee, O house of Israel, saith the Lord.

14 And thus prophesied Joseph, saying: Behold, that seer will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise, which I have obtained of the Lord, of the fruit of my loins, shall be fulfilled. Behold, I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise;

15 And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.

Article of Faith 8

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We often do not have a very good picture of the very little understanding the early members of the Church had about doctrine compared to what we have today.

There is a printers museum in Provo in a little house that you can go through for five dollars.

The teacher recommended the book “Foundations of the Revelations”.

Elders Quorum

Chapter 7 Teachings President Gordon B Hinckley

People expressed that conference had a lot of talks that touched on the Holy Ghost.

The teacher said that some of the ideas for his lesson came from Elder Rasband’s talk. “Let the Holy Spirit Guide”

‘The Holy Ghost is the Testifier of Truth, who can teach [us] things [we] cannot teach one another.” - from the manual

“The Holy Ghost binds us to the Lord. By divine assignment, He inspires, testifies, teaches, and prompts us to walk in the light of the Lord. We have the sacred responsibility to learn to recognize His influence in our lives and respond.” - Elder Rasband

“That is the way it is. There is a still, small voice. It comes in response to prayer. It comes by the whispering of the Spirit. It may come in the silence of the night.

“Do I have any question of that? None whatever. I have seen it in instance after instance.” - from the manual

When we have the spirit with us we learn more. Things make more sense.

“The Spirit speaks words that we feel. These feelings are gentle, a nudge to act, to do something, to say something, to respond in a certain way. If we are casual or complacent in our worship, drawn off and desensitized by worldly pursuits, we find ourselves diminished in our ability to feel.” - Rasband

“You impose upon yourselves each Sunday a renewal of your pledge and covenant to take upon yourselves the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Did you ever think of that, of how important that is, of what it means to take upon yourselves the name of the Lord Jesus Christ with a pledge and a promise to keep His commandments? And He makes a pledge and a promise to you that He will give you His Spirit to be with you. What a wonderful thing that is.” - from the manual
