Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah 11 Oct 2020

Sacrament Meeting

This is the first sacrament meeting where we are doing a meeting at the chapel and also broadcasting it.  They asked that people with letters F-K watch from home and also anyone who is in a high-risk category or is uncomfortable.  They have also opened it up to a larger number of people.  Previously they were not broadcasting it to anyone except the shut-ins when they have done it the last couple of months and they were not doing numbers larger than 100 people.  Now they are doing up to 150 people.

My Thoughts

We have been prepared to have church at home with the Come Follow Me program and the added emphasis on that learning needs to be home-centered and Church support.

We have been prepared to serve each other during social distancing by having home teaching and visiting teaching into the ministering program.

First Speaker

Second Speaker

Pay attention to times when you are feeling the spirit during everyday things.

This mighty society of relief is going to be needed.

The Bishop

Mosiah 18:21

21 And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another.

We are willing to serve, but less likely to let others serve us.  We need to let others serve us.

“When we speak of gathering Israel on both sides of the veil, we are referring, of course, to missionary, temple, and family history work. We are also referring to building faith and testimony in the hearts of those with whom we live, work, and serve. Anytime we do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—to make and keep their covenants with God, we are helping to gather Israel.”  (President Russell M. Nelson, “Let God Prevail”, Oct 2020 General Conference)

He talked of seeing the benefits of being quick to act on the promptings of the spirit.  He also talked of seeing the consequences of being slow to act on the promptings of the spirit.

Elders Quorum Online

The discussion this week is on Elder David A. Bednar's talk "Let This House Be Built unto My Name" from the April 2020 General Conference.

“Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

“And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.

“If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.” (D&C 2:1–3; see also JS—H 1:38–39.)

DnC 66:2

2 Verily I say unto you, blessed are you for receiving mine everlasting covenant, even the fulness of my gospel, sent forth unto the children of men, that they might have life and be made partakers of the glories which are to be revealed in the last days, as it was written by the prophets and apostles in days of old.

“The new and everlasting covenant is the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  1. It is new because it has been revealed or restored in each dispensation of time.

  2. It is everlasting because it never changes-the things that would save a man in Adam’s day are the very things that will save a man today.

  1. The new and everlasting covenant is a contractual arrangement in which God and man agree to abide by certain terms and conditions in return for certain benefits.

    1. Man agrees to keep all of God’s commandments and observe every ordinance of salvation.

    2. God, in return, agrees to share with man all the blessings and benefits of eternal life.

“How shall God come to the rescue of this generation? He will send Elijah the prophet. … Elijah shall reveal the covenants to seal the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers.” (Teachings: Joseph Smith, 313.)

“The word heart is used over 1,000 times in the standard works. This simple but significant word often denotes the inner feelings of an individual. Our hearts—the sum total of our desires, affections, intentions, motives, and attitudes—define who we are and determine what we will become. And the essence of the Lord’s work is changing, turning, and purifying hearts through gospel covenants and priesthood ordinances.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “Let This House Be Built unto My Name”, April 2020 General Conference)

“We do not come to the temple to hide from or escape the evils of the world. Rather, we come to the temple to conquer the world of evil. As we invite into our lives the “power of godliness”19 by receiving priesthood ordinances and making and keeping sacred covenants, we are blessed with strength beyond our own20 to overcome the temptations and challenges of mortality and to do and become good.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “Let This House Be Built unto My Name”, April 2020 General Conference)

Someone said that one thing that stood out in the talk was the word Desire.
