Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Apr 21, 2024

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

1 Nephi 2:16

16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.

Nephi and his brothers were like athletes and the Lord was like a coach when they went for the brass plates.

The Lord can help us to do hard things.

Next Speaker

President Susan H. Porter, “Pray, He Is There”, April 2024 General Conference

Elder Russell M. Nelson, “Sweet Power of Prayer”, April 2003 General Conference

“I testify that much of that joy comes as we recognize that we can communicate with our Heavenly Father through prayer and that those prayers will be heard and answered—perhaps not how and when we expected they would be answered, but they will be answered and by a Heavenly Father who knows and loves us perfectly and who desires our happiness.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Consider the Blessings”, October 2012 General Conference)

Next Speaker

Enos 1:1

1 Behold, it came to pass that I, Enos, knowing my father that he was a just man—for he taught me in his language, and also in the nurture and admonition of the Lord—and blessed be the name of my God for it

“By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners.” (The Family:  A Proclamation to the World)

“Today I wish to speak in praise of those who save” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “In Praise of Those Who Save”, April 2016 General Conference)

A relationship is not 50/50.  It works best when both are trying to give 100%.

Sunday School

Anti Christ's try to make the truth seem foolish.

Anti truth is pleasing to the carnal mind.

“As we invest time in learning about the Savior and His atoning sacrifice, we are drawn to participate in another key element to accessing His power: we choose to have faith in Him and follow Him.“ (President Russell M. Nelson, “Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives” , April 2017 General Conference)

Often prophets are called when they are pondering their sins and have a desire for forgiveness comes upon them.

“Some of the best sermons we will ever hear will be thus prompted from the pulpit of memory—to an audience of one!” (Elder Neal A. Maxwell, ‘Behold, the Enemy Is Combined’ (D&C 38:12)”, April 1993 General Conference)

“The object of prayer is not to change the will of God but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings.” (Bible Dictionary)

Write down the answers to your prayers. - help given at work

Prayer can require preparation. Enos was in the midst of wild beasts, out hunting, but he was a prepared hunter and it allowed him to feel peace in the forest to ponder and then pray.

“Always expecting the spectacular, many will miss entirely the constant flow of revealed communication.” (Spencer W. Kimball, in Conference Report, Munich Germany Area Conference, 1973, 77; quoted in Graham W. Doxey, “The Voice Is Still Small,” Ensign, Nov. 1991, 25.)

“If we have received the gift of the Holy Ghost and are striving to exercise faith, repent, and honor our covenants, then we are worthy to receive these divine rays constantly.” (Elder Alexander Dushku, “Pillars and Rays”, April 2024 General Conference)
