How can we be more faithful?

Moses 1:39

39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

Obey to two great commandments. 

We have to desire it and be intentional about achieving it.

The Savior continually gives mankind higher and higher laws. He built on the law of Moses. He builds upon the words he gave the ancient apostles. He builds upon the restoration.

Be intentional about teaching the youth in our lives.

“The temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ. His essential ordinances bind us to Him through sacred priesthood covenants. Then, as we keep our covenants, He endows us with His healing, strengthening power. And oh, how we will need His power in the days ahead.” (President Russell M. Don’t wait to be asked to serve someone.

Pay attention to what needs doing and do it.

Listen when your children and wife speak.

Heaven Father loves us, but loves us too much to leave us as we are.

Make your religion not just something you talk about, but something you live.

Coaches and dads can often see things that we can’t.  Heavenly Father can see exponentially more.

A talent can be a unit of wealth, which could be a symbol of testimony. 

John 8:1-11

6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Jesus waited to do the miracle of forgiveness until the crowd had dispersed. Miracles and signs are sacred and are ineffective in contentious groups.

God wants us to see ourselves and others as he sees them.

“Opportunities to serve others in meaningful ways, as we have covenanted to do, rarely come at convenient times. But there is no spiritual power in living by convenience.” (Elder M. Russell Ballard, “Like a Flame Unquenchable”, April 1999 General conference)

Joseph and Oliver had been reading about baptism in the Book of Mormon as they worked on its translation. It caused them to think about it and have questions. They prayed and asked about it. They were prepared at that point for the Lord to teach them more. He then revealed the Aaronic priesthood as the next step in their learning and in restoring the Church.

1 Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.

Alma 34:8-10

8 And now, behold, I will testify unto you of myself that these things are true. Behold, I say unto you, that I do know that Christ shall come among the children of men, to take upon him the transgressions of his people, and that he shall atone for the sins of the world; for the Lord God hath spoken it.

Jesus can heal us of our anger or anxiety or temptations.

Alma 1

25 Now this was a great trial to those that did stand fast in the faith; nevertheless, they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them.

Mosiah 5:15

15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. John 14:6

Work to take general council and bring it to ourselves personally.

“We live in perilous times when evil is being called good and good is being called evil (2 Nephi 15:20, Isaiah 5:20). We must stand fast against the values and practices that draw us away from the Lord’s teachings and our covenants, privileges, and obligations. We can do this with love.” - President Oaks

We are anointed in the temple to never speak guile.  Thus, we should watch our behavior online, in person, and when we speak of others in our homes when they are not present.

Jesus spent time with sinners.  I am a sinner.

“The purpose of our life should be to build up the Zion of our God, to gather the House of Israel, bring in the fulness of the Gentiles, restore and bless the earth with our ability and make it as the Garden of Eden, store up treasures of knowledge and wisdom in our own understandings, purify our own hearts and prepare a people to meet the Lord when he comes”.  (Discourses of Brigham Young, 88)

We should be a good giver and a good receiver.

James 1:17

A missionary that returned seven months ago from the Texas Dallas East and South Mission spoke to us.  The mission covered parts of Texas and Louisiana.

1 Peter 5

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

“Humility is willingness to submit to the will of the Lord. It is willingness to give Him the honor for what is accomplished. It is being teachable (see Doctrine and Covenants 136:32). Humility includes gratitude for God’s blessings and acknowledgment of your constant need for His help. He helps those who are humble” (Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ [2023], 131).

Being teachable means being ready and willing to be taught.

32 Let him that is ignorant learn wisdom by humbling himself and calling upon the Lord his God, that his eyes may be opened that he may see, and his ears opened that he may hear;

3 Nephi 11

11 And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.

The Savior died for us, but he also lived for us and does live for us.

4 It must needs be necessary that ye save all the money that ye can, and that ye obtain all that ye can in righteousness, that in time ye may be enabled to purchase land for an inheritance, even the city.

5 The place is not yet to be revealed; but after your brethren come from the east there are to be certain men appointed, and to them it shall be given to know the place, or to them it shall be revealed.

The law of consecration was one of the first things to be shifted to home centered and church supported.

Mother's Day

First Speaker

“Motherhood is more than bearing children, though it is certainly that. It is the essence of who we are as women. It defines our very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits our Father gave us.” (Sister Sheri L. Dew, “Are We Not All Mothers?”, October 2001 General Conference)

Eve mothered all of mankind through her choices and not just through being our ancestor who gave birth to us.

Heavenly Father has entrusted women to make a difference in the lives of all of His children and not just the ones that she births and/or raises.

“Satan has declared war on motherhood. He knows that those who rock the cradle can rock his earthly empire. And he knows that without righteous mothers loving and leading the next generation, the kingdom of God will fail.” - Dew

“More than ever before we need women of faith, virtue, vision, and charity, as the Relief Society declaration proclaims. We need women who can hear and who will respond to the voice of the Lord, women who at all costs will defend and protect the family. We don’t need women who want to be like men, sound like men, dress like men, drive like some men drive, or act like men. Motherhood is so much more than bearing and raising children.

Repentance is not begging God to take us back.  He is already waiting to take you back, He is just waiting for us to ask and be willing to change.
