 Sacrament Service

A young woman read her mission call.  She is going to serve in the Denmark Copenhagen Mission.

First Speaker

A young woman that recently got her endowment spoke to us.

Wearing the temple garment causes us to sacrifice the styles of the world.

One of our flaws, as humans, is that we are forgetful.  Things like temple garments, the sacrament, and work for our ancestors in the temple reminds us.

We can forget to fully keep the five covenants we make in the temple.

She said that anywhere there is a temple we have a home.  I have felt that way for a long time about our church meeting houses.  As I have traveled or moved around, whenever I knew there was a meetinghouse nearby I wanted to go see it, because it was home.

She expressed the thought that the temple is not just a cool accessory.

Alma 32:26-27

26 Now, as I said concerning faith—that it was not a perfect knowledge—even so it is with my words. Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge.

27 But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

Through teaching, you are growing your testimony.

Joint EQ/RS

Some of the lesson was based on President Emily Belle Freeman's talk from last conference, “Walking in Covenant Relationship with Christ”

“Think of the young man in a spot of trouble who met the Lord in a wilderness place. Jacob had journeyed far from home. In the dark of night, he had a dream that not only contained a ladder but also held significant covenant promises, including what I like to call the five-finger promise. On that night, the Lord stood beside Jacob, introduced Himself as the God of Jacob’s father, and then promised:

“I am with you.

“I will keep you safe.

“I will bring you home again.

“I will not leave you.

“I will keep my promise to you.”

Six covenants.

  1. Baptism

  2. Live the law of obedience

  3. Obey the law of sacrifice

  4. Obey the law of the gospel of Jesus Christ

  5. Keep the law of chastity

  6. Keep the law of consecration

General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 27.2 - "The word endowment means ‘a gift.’ The temple endowment is literally a gift from God through which He blesses His children."

1 Thessalonians 5:15,21

15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

You can become better or you can become bitter.

DnC 123:17

17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

DnC 78:19

19 And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more.

“Sometimes all we can see is that up-close, magnified view of those we love. Tonight, I invite you to zoom out and look through a different lens—an eternal lens that focuses on the big picture, your bigger story.” (Sister Tamara W. Runia, “Seeing God’s Family through the Overview Lens”, October 2023 General Conference)

Are we putting in a lot of work in the Church, but not finding joy?

“Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives”, April 2018 General Conference)

Often the Lord doesn't take away our problems, But enables us to Solve them or deal with them ourselves.

Malachi 3

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

We can prove the Lord in everything, not just tithing.

Sunday School

Be joyful in our afflictions.

While Paul was in prison, he was able to find joy and he was able to still move God's work forward.

Testimonies

Two senior couples announced their mission calls.  One to Nashville for a year as leader support missionaries.  The other as inner city missionaries somewhere on the Wasatch front.  They don’t have their assigned area yet, but I would assume it would be somewhere close, since I think they are still going to live in their house.  They said it is a part time mission, so maybe they are still working jobs as well.

“Everyday I need the power I get each time I read” - Children’s songbook

The Lord is in the details of our lives.

The Lord helps us in ways that we may not think are possible or may not know are possible.

When have you seen joy in living the gospel?

There is a painting of Jesus knocking on a door with no doorknob. The door represents our agency.
