Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Nov 16, 2023

Utah Area Leadership Meeting

Elder D Todd Christofferson

Joy in living the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Joy from covenants.

Joy from repentance.

2 Nephi 4

19 And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.

John 16

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

“Discover the joy of daily repentance.

“How important is repentance? Alma taught that we should ‘preach nothing save it were repentance and faith on the Lord.’ Repentance is required of every accountable person who desires eternal glory. There are no exceptions. In a revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord chastised early Church leaders for not teaching the gospel to their children. Repenting is the key to progress. Pure faith keeps us moving forward on the covenant path.

“Please do not fear or delay repenting. Satan delights in your misery. Cut it short. Cast his influence out of your life! Start today to experience the joy of putting off the natural man.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “The Power of Spiritual Momentum”, April 2022 General Conference)

Elder Kevin W. Pearson, Utah Area President

Our covenants include wearing the sacred garment.

“Enhancing the joy in Sunday Church experience.”

We are too casual about keeping the sabbath day holy.

There are other times to discuss politics… our chapels are dedicated to the worship of the Savior.

Bishop's responsibility to have a sacred Sacrament meeting cannot be delegated.

Bishoprics should be sitting on the stand 7-10 minutes before the meeting.

Those passing the sacrament should be well groomed.

Testimony meeting is not open mic time. It is to be used to talk of Christ and not discuss things of the world.

3 Nephi 27:27

27 And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.

“we will find it very difficult to be significant leaders unless we recognize the reality of the perfect leader, Jesus Christ, and let him be the light by which we see the way!“ (President Spencer W. Kimball, “Jesus, the Perfect Leader.”, Ensign, August1979)

Alma 29:4

4 I ought not to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.

A Christ-like Ministering Mindset

Invest time to get to know people and how the Savior feels about them.

The Savior expressed empathy and compassion as he ministered.

Seek inspiration before sharing advice.

John 13

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Racism has no place in the lord's kingdom.

1 Corinthians 12

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

In your ministering, you represent Jesus Christ.  In your callings, in your assignments, in your families, and in all of your interactions.

“One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Be a Peacemaker”, April 2023 General Conference)
