Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Dec 31, 2023

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

The former Sunday school president, who was recently released, shared his testimony.

Be a ward family and ward siblings.  Take time to build relationships and share our love for the scriptures, our love for the Savior, and our love for each other, not just on Sunday.  Share with each other more than just our hobbies and careers.

Next Speaker

Alma 5

26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?

Mosiah 5

15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.

Don’t just read the scriptures.  Study them and feast upon them.

Keep the first commandment (love God) first.

“My brothers and sisters, the first great commandment of all eternity is to love God with all of our heart, might, mind, and strength—that’s the first great commandment. But the first great truth of all eternity is that God loves us with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength.” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “Tomorrow the Lord Will Do Wonders among You”, April 2016 General Conference)

“My dear brothers and sisters, construction of these temples may not change your life, but your time in the temple surely will. In that spirit, I bless you to identify those things you can set aside so you can spend more time in the temple. I bless you with greater harmony and love in your homes and a deeper desire to care for your eternal family relationships. I bless you with increased faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a greater ability to follow Him as His true disciples.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Let Us All Press On”, April 2018 General Conference) - This was from the talk where the Layton temple was announced.

5th Sunday Meeting

We watched the Utah Area Leadership Meeting that was previously broadcast.

“My dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”-Nelson

“Please do not fear or delay repenting. Satan delights in your misery. Cut it short. Cast his influence out of your life! Start today to experience the joy of putting off the natural man. The Savior loves us always but especially when we repent.“ (President Russell M. Nelson, “The Power of Spiritual Momentum”, April 2022 General Conference)

“we are presently living in what surely is a most complicated time in the history of the world. The complexities and challenges leave many people feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.” (President Russell M. Nelson, “Overcome the World and Find Rest”, October 2022 General Conference)

“The Prophet Joseph Smith said, ‘The building up of Zion is a cause that has interested the people of God in every age.  It is a theme upon which prophets, priests and kings have dwelled with peculiar delight.  They have looked forward with joyful anticipation to the day which we live.’  He also said, ‘We ought to make building up Zion as our greatest object.’” (Kevin W. Pearson, Utah Area Leadership Meeting, 15 Nov 2023)

3 Nephi 27

27 And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.

Christ is the perfect leader.

Alma 29:4

4 I ought not to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.

The Savior not only talked, but he also listened.

“As disciples of Christ, we are invited to increase our faith in, and love for, our spiritual brother- and sisterhood by genuinely knitting our hearts together in unity and love, regardless of our differences, thereby increasing our ability to promote respect for the dignity of all the sons and daughters of God.” (Elder Ulisses Soares, “Brothers and Sisters in Christ”, October 2023 General Conference)

 3 Nephi 17:6

6 And he said unto them: Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you.

Jesus did not have an office.
