Church Services This Week at Oak Ridge Ward Layton North Stake Layton Utah Dec 17, 2023

Sacrament Service

First Speaker

A new missionary to the stake spoke to us.  He is from South Dakota.

He talked about having to get a perspective change when he was called to Utah, rather than some place exotic.  Later one of the bishopric members said he went to South Dakota on his mission and he felt the same way about not being called some place exotic.

“Then what is humility? According to Preach My Gospel, it is a ‘willingness to submit to the will of the Lord. … It is being teachable. … [It] is a vital catalyst for spiritual growth.’” (Elder Joni L. Koch,  “Humble to Accept and Follow”, October 2023 General Conference)

The most important person ever born was born in a stable.

Matthew 26

37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Next Speaker

A missionary that is new to our stake and has been on his mission less than a week bore his testimony.

Moroni 7:46

46 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail

Next Speaker

Due to Herod ordering all children under the age of 2 to be killed, the wise men must have arrived to Herod around two years after Jesus’ birth.

The gifts from the wisemen likely helped Joseph flee with his family to escape Herod.

Revelation 6-14

Revelation 7

3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Ephesians 1

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Mosiah 5:15

15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

DnC 109:22

22 And we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from this house armed with thy power, and that thy name may be upon them, and thy glory be round about them, and thine angels have charge over them;

“If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear” by President Hinckley 2005

Someone has said that it was not raining when Noah was building the ark, but he built it and the rains came just as the Lord said.

The Lord has said, “If ye are prepared ye shall not fear” (DnC 38:30)

The primary preparation is also set forth in the Doctrine and Covenants, wherein it says, “Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come” (DnC 87:8).

We can so live that we can call upon the Lord for His protection and guidance.  This is a first priority.

“The Answer Is Always Jesus Christ” by President Russell M Nelson 2023

“Dear brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ extends that same invitation to you today.  I plead with you to come unto Him so that He can heal you!  He will heal you from sin as you repent.  He will heal you from sadness and fear.  He will heal you from the wounds of this world.

“Whatever questions or problems you have, the answer is always found in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  Learn more about His Atonement, His love, His mercy, His doctrine, and His restored gospel of healing and progression.   Turn to Him!  Follow Him!” (President Russell M. Nelson, “The Answer Is Always Jesus Christ”, April 2023 General Conference)
